Saturday Stats

I'm almost one week in.

Here's a fabulous lunch idea I stumbled upon and will repeat. It was so yummy and healthy. We had cooked leftover chicken skewers from Costco in the refrigerator from the night before and couscous- we had seasoned these with a spicy Asian chili sauce that I found at the Chinese grocery store but with a label in Chinese I can't read ....let's say it's somewhat like Korean sirachi sauce except not as hot. I warmed these up and added leftover salad to it (cut carrots, celery, lettuce, cauliflower, green sugar snap peas). To give it some Moroccan flare I added dried cranberries. I was thinking this could be an easy lunch idea if I had quinoa or leftover chicken breasts.

My go to snacks are Greek yogurt, cut apples & cheese, or cottage cheese & pineapple when I'm eating healthy.

I was wondering if the scale would show much change because I started this week out really well eating healthy and exercising and then...

And then on Wednesday we decided to make the trip to pack and get another load of boxes. Our house still hasn't sold. The economy and housing market is killing us over here. We did not really ride the market in Alberta well on this house sale. We will take a loss on this house I imagine but the longer we hold onto it the longer we have two houses to maintain and pay utilities and taxes for.

So the trip west meant eating out and making excuses like being too tired to workout. On the way there instead of fast food we had sushi at a sit down restaurant. But then because we have packed the kitchen in the house we ate out twice there and I caved into snacking on white cheddar popcorn, ripple chips etc. Yipes! I did fit in a workout on Wednesday evening at 9:30 pm  after J was in bed for the night. The next day Thursday I just couldn't between caring for J and packing. I was spent at 9 pm. The problem with skipping a workout is that the next day it is even easier to skip. We were under the wire to clean up the house for a realtor showing on Friday as our house was a disaster from pulling everything out of closets to pack. We vacuumed the whole house top to bottom, cleaned four bathrooms, washed floors, dusted and polished all of the stainless steel appliances.  We made it- the house was in top shape, the van was packed with one hour to spare before the realtor would show up.  Then instead of going out for the hour the realtor would show the house we decided to make the four hour trip back rather than staying the night and leaving in the morning. So my Friday workouts were a right off.

Did I lose any weight then? Yes! I don't know how but thankfully the scale did not punish me.

I plan to complete the three workouts I missed on Thursday and Friday today and tomorrow. With T25 Saturday and Sunday are rest days. What is with having two workouts scheduled on Friday though? I am not a fan.

I am not really enjoying T25 and I'm only a few days in. I am not sure if that will change. I picked this workout because it can be done at home and it is a doable length. I don't have to go the gym. It does promise results and there are numerous positive results posted on the Internet by converts. I already had purchased it years ago so I did not have to pay for another series of workout videos. I like that it has a clear schedule to follow. I don't like that there are so many individuals to follow on the screen. Sure it is motivating and they are all doing the same sequence but it is confusing when the camera switches from one individual to the next. For someone who is directionally challenged like myself it is really confusing. Also I have to often follow Tanya, who does the modified version; the problem with this is that the camera does not find her often and sometimes I'm left just flailing around wondering what I should be doing because jumping from a up dog into a burpee to a squat is clearly is not where I am at. Finally the camera finds Tanya and she is pretend skiing. What??!! If it was a workout video with just Tanya and Shaun T giving her pointers and encouraging us all it would be awesome. If I give up and decide to switch to Jillian Michaels you will understand why. But for now I'm giving it some time.

My goals then until next Saturday are:
  • To finish Thursday & Friday's workouts from Week 1
  • To complete Week 2s workouts
  • To not have any carbonated beverages this week
  • To not eat any fast food
  • To enter my food journal into My Fitness Pal at least three days this upcoming week
  • To see 167 on the scale

Time to Get In Shape

It's time to get in shape over here. They say if you set a goal and make it public your more likely to follow through.

So here's to getting in shape. I'm going to start by completing T25 and improving some unhealthy habits.

T25 is a series of workout DVDs by Shaun T. where you workout for 25 minutes and five days a week. The program is intended to be completed in 10 weeks.

I haven't worked out in a very very very longtime. My first workout was challenging and I didn't really "nail it" as I had to do the modified version for most of it even though it was only a 25 minute workout. I did however keep moving for 25 minutes and I was drenched in sweat after.

Starting Stats:

Here's my first weigh in. I plan to update on Saturday my progress.

I gained 20 pounds in pregnancy of which I've lost 15-18 depending on which scale and how much clothes I'm wearing. I am back into a few of my pre-pregnancy jeans. I really need to work on toning up however.

I started out my pregnancy at my heaviest weight. As I said before I haven't really worked out consistently in a very very very long time. As in before I got married five years ago. I had gained 30 pounds since getting married and went from a size 6 to 12 and sometimes 14.

It's a little embarrassing to admit.

After getting married we ate out a lot, we shopped at Costco, my fridge was always full of food, my husband is a snacker and I snacked along with him. I no longer walked to work, went to the gym or ran. When I'm tired I eat.

I have a few challenges ahead in terms of making new habits. Namely not snacking as much or when I'm tired. Walking more. Working out. Not eating as much Chinese or pizza takeout -even though it is easy and Ls favorite food choice.

Ideally I'd like to fit into my pre-marriage clothes. Lately I've been reading all kinds of style blogs and remember how much fun fashion is.

Here's what I've found based on my body and clothing sizes:

size 14 170 lbs
Size 13 165
Size 12 160
Size 11 155
Size 10 150
Size 9 145
Size 8 140
Size 7 135
Size 6 130
Size 5 125
Size 4 120

However I'm going to set a realistic goal that I can perhaps accomplish in 10 weeks as I likely can't undo what I've gained in five years.

Here's to losing 15 pounds in 10 weeks/ and or fitting into size 10-11 because muscle weighs more than fat as I've been told.

Would you like to connect and be my workout/weight loss buddy? Do you have a spare tire kicking around you'd like to get rid of? A weight loss or fitness goal you'd like to accomplish?
